Ping
Ping a host, or run a traceroute to see which way traffic gets there.
You are using the tools as a guest: up to 20 runs per hour, and the port scanner only scans your own IP address. A free account gives you full access.

Traceroute
Shows which routers traffic passes through on its way to the host.
Traceroute (to internet / jegon)
A traceroute from your own machine shows the path from your network to the target. A web page cannot start one on your computer, so run the command yourself in a terminal and paste the result below if you want to save it.
The target may only contain letters, digits, dots, colons and hyphens.
Windows
Open Command Prompt or PowerShell. Windows looks up the hops' PTR names by itself (name [ip]).
CopiedLinux
Run in a terminal. Names (PTR) are shown by default. If the program is missing: sudo apt install traceroute (Debian/Ubuntu) or sudo dnf install traceroute (Fedora/RHEL).
CopiedIf it ends in only * * * (the target does not answer UDP, which the standard traceroute uses), use ICMP instead. This needs sudo:
CopiedOr with mtr, which shows both name and IP per hop:
CopiedHops that only show an IP address have no PTR record. Hops with * do not answer traceroute, but traffic can still pass through them.
If you have a jegon account you can save your traceroute here. It is linked to your login together with your IP and browser, so you can find it again.
